A history of craftsmanship

Harris & Thurston was established in 2006 by Ian Harris and Stephen Thurston, and initially focused on handcrafted, high-quality wooden furniture.

Customers were impressed with the workmanship and asked for customised fittings, such as bathroom cabinets, benchtops, and inbuilt shelving and storage solutions – as well as bespoke kitchens and furniture restoration.

While the company still offers these bespoke services, the main focus is on custom kitchens in Kerikeri and the Bay of Islands area, as well as kitchen renovations. Harris & Thurston’s traditional values of craftsmanship and customisation remain.

When Stephen Thurston moved to France, and Adam Gibson took over his share of the business, working in partnership with Ian Harris. Together, they bring over 65 years’ combined experience to the business.

All projects are designed and built to clients’ unique needs.

Innovation

Ian’s background in boatbuilding and working in the tight confines of galley kitchens means he’s very creative in the use of awkward spaces.

End-to-end expertise:

All our work is done in-house, from the design work, through to the cabinet making, and the installation. Having full control over the whole process means high quality workmanship – plus the work is done efficiently.

3D Modelling

Design work is done in-house by Adam, who will create a 3D model of your kitchen so you can see exactly what it will look like, and how the space will function.

Own spray booth:

To control the quality for a superior finish, we do all the spray painting in-house.

Meet Our Skilled Team

IAN HARRIS

[ DIRECTOR ]

Ian has 30 years’ experience, covering cabinet making, boat building, and civil engineering.

He’s likely to be your main contact point at Harris & Thurston, as he manages the client liaison and also conducts in-home consultations and takes those all-important measurements. Ian’s also hands-on with the cabinet making and installation.

Ian’s favourite part of the job is seeing a gleaming new kitchen completed or renovated, having worked with you to bring your vision to life.

Outside of work, Ian enjoys umpiring a local sailing team, and cycling.
